The Process

Architectural

Once scope is defined, we are often asked to take the lead on interior finishes. This is always a collaborative effort with architects and scope may vary. Below is an overview of our process.

I
Interior Styles and Finishes

  • The process begins with an Inspiration Presentation, drawing from our work and other sources to establish the desired mood and style. Renderings, sketches, and material samples—such as tile, stone, wood, cabinetry, and fixtures—are reviewed, with showroom or workshop visits included as needed. When appropriate, virtual reality walkthroughs are created in collaboration with the architect to help visualize the spaces. Follow-up meetings, in person or via Zoom, refine selections until the design direction is fully established.

II
Documentation of Finishes and Fixtures

  • All finishes and fixtures are carefully documented through schedules and specification packages, tailored to the format preferred by the project team. This may involve developing stand-alone schedules or collaborating directly with the architect to ensure clarity and accuracy.

III
Ongoing Construction Review

  • A member of the design team remains actively involved throughout construction, attending site meetings as needed and reviewing RFIs on a weekly basis to ensure timely responses. This oversight helps confirm that the design intent is faithfully executed during the build.

Furnishing and Decoration

Once building materials are chosen and the architectural direction set, the focus shifts to bringing the interiors to life with furnishings. Presentations vary with project size. Below is an overview of our typical process for furnishings selection and procurement.

I
Furniture Plans

  • Detailed furniture layouts are created for all spaces, indoors and out, often supported by sketches or elevations for context. These plans are sometimes developed early to help guide architectural and lighting decisions and may progress alongside material selections.

II
Interior Furnishings

  • An in-depth presentation is held in our studio (lunch included) to review finishes, fixtures, and layouts, beginning with key spaces such as the living room, kitchen, and primary bedroom. Renderings, fabrics, finishes, and lighting options are presented, allowing the Client to make the majority of selections in one session. Follow-up presentations address the remainder of the home. Once the design direction is established, ongoing communication is often managed efficiently by Zoom or email.

III
Proposal and Procurement

  • After selections are finalized, a detailed proposal with formal quotes is prepared. Adjustments or re-selections are made if necessary. Presentations or follow-ups may be conducted in person or virtually, though much of this stage is typically handled through email and Zoom.

IV
Finishing Touches

  • The final layer includes art, accessories, bedding, dinnerware, and more—tailored to the Client’s needs. Long-lead items such as bedding and dishes are sourced 6–8 months prior to installation. For art, we guide Clients toward galleries and artists that resonate with them, then provide recommendations for placement throughout the home. This process generally begins 3–6 months before installation and may include gallery visits.

V
Installation — No Peeking Allowed!

  • The installation is a complete reveal. Our team oversees all details—delivery and placement of furnishings, art installation, accessory styling, bed-making, and even stocking the fridge—so the home is fully ready upon the Client’s arrival. Installation is completed in one phase, typically over 3–10 days depending on the scope of the project.
